US OPEN 2006 - Super Joy!
09/09/2006:
The Belgian lioness gracefully pounced Jelena Jankovic 4-6 6-4 6-0 in two
hours and a minute of play. It wasn't easy for Justine in the early stages,
but she ran away from the Serbian's travelling circus theatrics with regal
ease in the second and third set with stoic grace. The 5x grand slam jewel
player will next face off with Maria Sharapova on Saturday night at 8:00pm
(EDT) in what would be surely be one of the year's most intriguing major
finals.
It was JH2's second career match against Jankovic, but the Serbian was on a
bit of a career roll these past weeks at Flushing Meadows. The number 20th
player on the WTA rankings defeated Nicole Vaidisova, Svetlana Kuznetsova and
Elena Dementieva. Jankovic's showboating shots and antics were a bit too much
for an under par, and out of sync double faulting Belgian. Justine lost the
first set after slowly dragging back her 1-4 deficit.
Jankovic still had the edge in the early games of the second set, but
sideshow tennis doesn't equate to grand slam success. Justine found her
coordinates, and fired deep hard hitting shots dragging Jankovic out of
court. The Serbian was simply not good enough anymore to break Justine.
Double H took the second set 6-4.
Jankovic's soap opera dramatics and needless desperate instant replay
challenges, were her downfall as the Serbian's actual tennis technique
started to fade. Justine romped to take royal dominance in the final set. In
the end it was class over crass with a 6-0 set to the electrifying Justine.
Final Score 4-6 6-4 6-0 in 2 hrs and 1 min
Allez Justine!
