US OPEN 07- The First In Line

Justine became the first to enter the round of 16 by defeating Russian
Ekaterina Makarova 6-0 6-2 in 50 minutes on Arthur Ashe Stadium. It was an
efficient, yet thoughtful and mature performance by Justine on Friday
morning. The enigmatic Belgian will next play Dinara Safina on Sunday.


Justine played 19 year old lefty Ekaterina Makarova (Wta # 156), the
qualifier that defeated seeded #28 Japanese veteran Ai Sugiyama in the 2nd
round. Justine was a class far too above for Makarova and won the first set
6-0 in 18 minutes.

The second set wasn't much different as the first with Justine's forehands
slashing away Makarova's loopy lefty shots that were deep on the baseline,
but lacked the final big finish for points. The Russian got on the scoreboard
at 4-1 and even stopped a match point on serve. The next game was always in
Justine's safe hands. The match point was made on the 4th attempt for Ms.
Henin.


Final Score 6-0 6-2 in 50 minutes
