PL2 report: Tottenham 1 Chelsea 4
18 Apr 2021
A four-midable development squad performance saw us complete a derby
double over Spurs this season with goals from George McEachran, Thierno
Ballo, Harvey Vale and George Nunn.

This game's reverse fixture was one that had everything. Five goals, two
red cards and plenty of talking points. 3-2 Chelsea was the eventual
result that evening as goals from Myles Peart-Harris (2) and Marcel Lewis
helped us return to the top of the PL2 table before Christmas.
Todays' game wasn't much different, we had five goals and three penalties
awarded, even if only two were converted. We were in complete control
from the referee's first whistle and a two-goal lead would be the reward
of an impressive half-hour's work with goals from McEachran (pen) and
Ballo.
A home goal on the stroke of half time meant we had some work to do, but
Harvey Vale ensured it was only a consolation after heading us into a 3-1
lead moments after the restart. George Nunn wrapped up the afternoon's
work in north London and the win moves us into second place with three
games left to play.
== Starting XI ==
There were four changes to the team Andy Myers named in the win over
Southampton on Monday night. Xavier Mbuyamba was in defence from the
start, while fellow scorer, Silko Thomas dropped to the bench. Into the
team came Lewis Bate, Harvey Vale and Tino Livramento as Declan Frith
and Sam McClelland were among the substitutes.

== Two-goal Chelsea make for contrasting start ==
In December, we were left with a mountain to climb almost immediately.
Spurs were two goals ahead by the 17th minute and the game only looked to
be heading one way.
However, by the 17th minute this afternoon, we were gifted an early lead
after the referee awarded us an opportunity from the penalty spot.
McEachran stepped up and converted his fourth goal of the PL2 campaign,
after Tino Livramento was fouled.
The goal helped us assert our dominance on the game as Spurs struggled to
get on the ball. Our midfield two of McEachran and Lewis Bate were doing a
good job of restricting home attacks and recycling the ball to create
scoring opportunities for our forwards. That was no more evident than when
we hit our second of the game just after 30 minutes of play.
Ballo, who had five goals prior to kick-off, popped up in the box to tuck
the ball away at the near post following Dujon Sterling's inital cross and
put some space between us and our opponents.

== Half-time setback but back out with a bang ==
Tottenham did improve after our second goal though, they asked plenty of
questions of our defence and in the first minute of the five additional,
the home team found an answer. Kion Etete thumped the ball past Ethan Wady
from 12 yards and left us with some regrouping to do at the break after a
good first-half showing.
Discussions in the dressing room clearly did the trick for Chelsea as
Marcel Lewis's cross provided wing-back Vale with an opportunity to
strengthen our grip on the game at the back post and he took it, even if
his header needed a little help from the woodwork. Vale's first PL2 goal
of the season gave us back the two-goal cushion of the first half.

== Solid foundations ==
We were good value for our lead at the hour, though Tottenham remained a
constant threat for our defence who were doing a good job of keeping the
danger away from Wady's net.
Meanwhile, we had attacking intentions of our own and the familiar sight
of Tino Livramento in the final third allowed Nunn to volley through a sea
of bodies inside the box for his first goal of the season. 1-4 Blues!

Sweet strike from George Nunn!
That was Livramento's work done for the afternoon as he was soon replaced
by Silko Thomas for the final eight minutes of play.
The hosts did have a chance to respond quite late on from the penalty
spot. However Jamie Bowden was unable to replicate earlier finishing from
McEachran and Etete as Wady saved and the clock ran down on an excellent
Chelsea display.
== What's next? ==
Next for Myers' men is a trip to Manchester United on Friday night,
kick-off is 7pm.
