07 Dec 2019
Chelsea Under-18s moved to the top of their Premier League table with an
emphatic win over Swansea City on Saturday morning.

There was a flurry of goals in Wales as the Blues hit Swansea for eight
without reply. George Nunn broke the deadlock after just five minutes but
Chelsea were made to wait until two mintues after the restart for their
next goal.
Myles Peart-Harris hit the target either side of a first goal for Joe
Haigh to seal a brace after 55 minutes, and with the Blues four goals to
the good the game looked beyond their visitors.
Haigh wrapped up his hat-trick on 84 minutes from close range after Dion
Rankine got in on the scoring act two minutes beforehand. The final goal
came two minutes from time when Lewis Bate made it eight goals on a good
afternoon for Ed Brand's boys.
Perfect conditions for football saw the Chelsea get off to the best
possible start in south Wales, our first chance resulted in George Nunn
turning in Sam Iling-Juniors cross after being found unmarked in the
Swansea box. That was Nunn's fourth goal of the season, all of them coming
in the Under-18s Premier League campaign.
In a first-half where chances were at a premium, we were made to wait
until the interval for a clear chance from either side. Immediately from
kick-off the Blues attacked and Rankine's cross was initally poked towards
goal by Peart-Harris who saw goalkeeper Tyler Evans deny him, but the
stopper could only push the ball back into the danger area and our number
10, Peart-Harris, was there again - this time his effort rebounded off the
underside of the bar. The danger wasn't cleared however and Xavier Simons
struck against the post from 12-yards. It was a huge let off for the
hosts.
Peart-Harris didn't let his head drop and opened his account a minute
later. He pounced upon the loose touch of midfielder Erick Kenko and
rifled a shot into the roof of the net. 2-0 Blues.
That goal seeemed to open the floodgates and the Blues looked as though
they would score with every attack - just four minutes later, Haigh, this
time found the net from 12-yards following Bate's through ball. That goal
meant the score was 3-0 Chelsea.
There was no let up for Swansea as Peart-Harris notched his second of the
afternoon, and third in as many PL starts to see the Blues four goals
ahead after 55 minutes. He swept home Simons' low centre from close range
and the points almost certainly looked to be returning to Cobham with
Chelsea.

Peart-Harris has made five Academy appearances this season
It should have been five but the post denied Chelsea again - Haigh some
how hit the woodwork from a yard out and couldn't record his second goal
after Bate pulled a cross back from the byline. The missed chance spurred
the midfielder on and a quick fire double saw the 16-year-old complete his
hat-trick.
The first was a contender for goal of the season - Haigh won the ball back
in midfield and advanced into the box before he fired home into the far
corner leaving 'keeper Evans without a chance.
Haigh's hat-trick and Chelsea's seventh was recorded after 84 minutes,
Bate's inital shot was parried back into the path of the midfielder who
volleyed home. Two minutes prior, winger Rankine put his name on the
scoresheet in stunning fashion for our sixth - assisted by substitute
James Clark, the former Cambridge United youngster arrowed an effort into
the top right corner with his weaker left foot. It was a truly spectacular
goal.

Rankine has two league goals this season
Our final goal came from the penalty spot and Bate finally got his goal
after Simons was tripped by a Swansea defender as he raced through on
goal - Moments later the referee blew the final whistle and the Blues
returned to the top of the league table overtaking closest rivals Fulham
who they lead by a point.
Ed Brand's boys are next in action on Wednesday 18 December as the Blues
welcome Huddersfield Town to Kingsmeadow in the FA Youth Cup.
