YOUTH REPORT: CHELSEA 0 LEICESTER CITY 2
Posted on: Sat 01 Mar 2014
== Summary ==
A Chelsea Under-18s side featuring six schoolboys over the course of the
90 minutes were defeated in a league game at Cobham by two second-half
goals from the visitors.
== Team news ==
There were three changes from the side that secured an impressive away win
at Aston Villa last time out, with Under-21 regulars Ruben Loftus-Cheek
and Izzy Brown starting in midfield and up front respectively.
Loftus-Cheek (pictured top) was joined in midfield by Jordan Houghton and
Dominic Solanke, while Brown was supported from wide by Reece Mitchell and
Tammy Abraham.
The back four comprised of two schoolboys in Jay Dasilva and Jake
Clarke-Salter, along with George Brady and Isak Ssewankambo. Bradley
Collins kept his place in goal.
== First half ==
An even opening quarter of an hour meant chances for both sides were
restricted, though Brady had to be alert to make a crucial sliding
intervention as the visitors slid a dangerous ball across the face of goal
from the left with Simone Stankivicus lurking at the back post.
Leicester's Sam Jones then headed a corner from the right straight into
the gloves of Collins before down the other end, Solanke (pictured below)
tested Liam Sharpe in the Leicester goal with a low drive.

Stankivicus fired a free-kick into the wall after the referee adjudged a
somewhat harsh handball against Houghton, before Solanke fizzed a
dangerous centre across the face of the young Foxes' goal after good work
and strength from Brown.
Kyle Bailey bent a curling effort wide for the visitors as the interval
approached and Brown had a shot charged down well, so there was to be no
breakthrough for either side before the referee signalled for the break.
== Second half ==
Adi Viveash's young Chelsea team started the second period brightly, and
Sharpe was forced to claw away Loftus-Cheek's header from a corner inside
the opening few minutes.
Danny Rowe had the game's best chance for Leicester just before the hour
mark as his header from close range flew narrowly past the far post,
before Rowe had another sight at goal moments later, shooting high after a
cutback from the right flank.
Ssewankambo brought a low save from Sharpe after good work down the right
from the right-back and schoolboy Abraham (pictured below), while fellow
Under-16 Clarke-Salter was putting in a composed display at the back.

Substitute Charly Musonda tested the goalkeeper with a low effort and,
after more enterprising work down the right, Abraham picked up a loose
ball in the box and arrowed an effort towards goal, though Sharpe was
equal to it once again.
However the deadlock was soon broken and in the 70th minute it was the
visitors celebrating. Rowe progressed from midfield into a promising
position and finished expertly down low, inside the far post.
The deficit was soon doubled as substitute Chris Dusabe found space inside
the penalty area and headed a perfect delivery beyond the despairing dive
of Collins to put his side 2-0 ahead.
Chelsea responded with a fierce drive from Musonda that was excellently
tipped over the bar by Sharpe and, from the resulting short corner,
Houghton headed narrowly over the crossbar after an inviting delivery from
Mitchell.
However time ran out for Viveash's side and, despite a red card for the
visiting defender Ben Chilwell in stoppage time, the visitors claimed all
three league points.
Next up for the youth team is a league trip to Fulham on Saturday 8 March.
