日媒指出當時洋基也是爭奪大谷的其中一人，但大谷鎖定美國西岸都市規模較小的球團，
就是因為擔心大都市豪門要求馬上繳出成績，二刀流可能會被迫放棄，但今年狀況已不同
，大谷在投打方面都達到最高水準，這些大都市豪門球隊無疑也會想要大谷。
日本體育作家友成那智表示，洋基輪值戰力不足，加上主場的設計對左重砲手有利，洋基
陣中主力打者史坦頓、賈吉、桑契斯、拉梅修、托瑞斯都是右打，如果補強有長打能力的
左砲手大谷，又有王牌身手的投球，補強恰當好處。
友成那智分析，「大谷今後只要沒有受傷，投打方面都能保持穩定成績，後年進入自由市
場後，洋基可能會端出跟楚奧特同等的12年4.265億美元（約119億台幣）合約，甚至是更
高價也說不定。」
