Didn't have a great deal to do.
Looked suspect at times from corners but was helped out by his defence time
and time again. Solid for the most part, that said.

Quiet from an offensive perspective but there could be no complaints with his
defensive contribution. It was no coincidence that this was one of Lallana's
quietest showings of the season.

His relationship at the heart of the defence with Terry continues to blossom
and he largely stifled the threat of Rodriguez, with the Saints striker often

A strong performance from Chelsea's leader. Looked assured with Cahill by his
side and stood firm in the face of Southampton pressure.

Did not seem his usual self. Rarely got forward and was pegged back by
Chambers time and again. Did not seize the opportunity to show that he
deserves a regular spot in the side.

Sloppy in possession but always looked to drive his team forward from central
areas. Struggled to exert enough influence on the game, though, as the
attacking cavalry became isolated.

Dependable as ever, the Nigerian kept his side ticking with some clever
passing and positioning. Ensured that his side were never outnumbered on the

Impressed largely but offered little attacking threat. Did not contribute
enough on the counter but his passing accuracy could not be faulted. Hauled
off as the Blues went in search of an opener.

Showed some neat tricks and flicks but very little end product to show for it
as the Saints looked to gang up on the Belgian.

A hit-and-miss display from the German, who showed good awareness of those
around him but was also slack with his passing and failed to beat his marker
enough. Sacrificed at the start of the second period.

Looked lively throughout.
Was electric from the outset with runs in behind the Saints' back line and
showed excellent perseverance when others around him toiled to score the
crucial opening goal of the contest. Merited it for an all-action display.

Outstanding display from the youngster despite the yellow card.
The Brazilian added some much-needed verve to an otherwise stale attack and
strengthened Mourinho's case for fielding him as the first-choice No.10. Set
up the goal slightly fortuitously, it has to be said, but came up with the
goods when it mattered. Even added a goal to boot.

His arrival coincided with Torres's opener and he later got himself on the
scoresheet with a superbly taken strike. Worked tirelessly up and down the
right wing to keep the Saints at bay.
