BALTIMORE -- Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis exited Thursday's 6-2 win
in the bottom of the eighth inning with a sore left hip.
"He slid in the first inning on a double play and he jammed his [left] hip,"
said manager Terry Francona. "It just got stiff as the game went [on]. I
thought it was the best way to have him available tomorrow by getting him out
of there."
Youkilis confirmed that he should be fine to be back in the lineup Friday
night, when the Red Sox open a three-game series at Fenway Park against the
Mariners.
"I just slid and got a little locked up," Youkilis said. "As the game went
on, it locked up a little more, but I should be good to play tomorrow. It was
more of a precaution. Tito wanted to take me out."
