Justine avenged her 2004 second round lost to Italy's Tathiana Garbin on the
clearest, warmest day so far at this year's French Open 6-4 6-0. Nature's
elements were in Justine's favour, as was her own supernatural talents.
Justine now faces off with 2004 RG winner, Anastasia Myskina on Sunday for
the super round of 16.


The match started perfectly as Justine raced out to a 3-1 lead in turbo
power, but the spirited Italian played smart clay court points, and levelled
at 3-3. Luck was not on Garbin's side this time, as Justine hanged tough. The
Belgian champion cleared any mental flashbacks making good on her own
perfectionist goals of never letting an opponent that defeated her get a
second win. It went 6-4 to Justine in 48 minutes of play. Half of today's
mission was over.

The second set was all Justine, luxe backhands with aggressive forehands, and
nice deft net play to pressure Garbin, a great doubles player - away from
even considering forays forward. A masterclass volley finished the set for
Justine on her first sweet match point to 6-0.


Final Score 6-4 6-0 in 1 hr 19 mins.


Duel of RG champions in the round of 16
Justine will next play Myskina in the 4th round, the only other player in the
draw that has won Roland Garros. They've met 8 times, and the last match
together was the wild, yet classic Henin-Hardenne style excitement of a
semi-final at the Olympics in 2004 where the Russian was about to serve for
the match in the third set 5-1. But Justine shocked Myskina with uncanny
mental strength to win the match 7-5 5-7 8-6.
