Justine has made the quarterfinals by defeating Sybille Bammer, the Austrian
lefty and WTA rarity; the touring mother/player 6-2 6-4. The enigmatic
Belgian will play Serena Williams on Tuesday for a place in the semi-finals.
Justine played Austrian Sybille Bammer today under lighter weather conditions
than her previous matches. The first set was an uncomplicated affair at 6-2,
but the lefty forehands of Bammer found a way back into the match in the
second set after Justine lost a bit of focus.
There weren't too many classic clay court rallies in this 4th rounder. Clay
court tennis reveals the true skills of a player, it exposes the gaping holes
and Justine played the Austrian at the level which was appropriate. Sybille
Bammer evened the score at 4-4 in the second set, after Justine dropped her
lead at 4-0. The grand Belgian regained her focus to impose her own style of
tennis with a clean 40-0 service hold, and eventually won the most vital
final two games in the match. Justine won the second set 6-4.
