事情都會是有原因的，為什麼 Rodman 在 1993-94 球季這麼聽話、賣力打球、
協助 Robinson？就是 Bob Bass 在與活塞交易 Rodman 時已經答應他，
只要 Rodman 在 1993-94 球季好好表現，肯給優渥的延長合約。


但是等到 Popovich 主政時的 1994-95 球季，Rodman 又開始搞怪脫序，
不就因為 Popovich 不履行之前 Bob Bass 的承諾嗎？


這個時候再來談 Popovich 認為 Rodman 值得加薪的意義不大，因為 Popovich
一開始就不打算幫他加薪。在 1994-95 球季開打前，Rodman 就已經因為合
約的事情跟管理階層討論過，當時得到的回覆就是要觀察 Rodman 在 1994-95
球季的表現再來決定延長合約的事。


就是因為這樣，Rodman 才開始他 1994-95 球季的一連串脫序行為。


Rodman 那些脫序行為當然是錯誤的，可是球隊管理階層的問題也是很大。


Bob Bass 當時對 Rodman 的承諾代表的是馬刺隊對 Rodman 的承諾，
球隊的 GM 絕對不是僅僅代表個人，而是代表球團整體。


Popovich 不履行前一任 GM 的承諾，Rodman 當然會認為這是馬刺隊
整體管理階層背叛他。


類似的事情難道會少嗎？

Pippen 當年與 Jerry Krause 談延長合約時，每一次都是敷衍了事，
都跟 Pippen 說看下一季的表現再說，用一堆話術再拖過一年。

於是 Pippen 在 1997-98 開季前就宣佈要動腳踝的手術，從開季就開始缺賽，
擺明不想再為公牛隊打任何一場球，並且對媒體放話要求公牛隊交易他。

Pippen 與 Jerry Krause 的合約談判，似乎大多數的球迷與媒體都是站在
Pippen 這邊。Pippen 不也是擺爛且不想為公牛隊上場打球嗎？


回到 Rodman 與 Popovich 的合約談判，Popovich 難道沒有問題嗎？


Popovich 若覺得 Rodman 是個人才，那應該是要想辦法好好利用 Rodman 的
防守與籃板優勢吧？這時候好好地把延常合約問題搞定才不會衍生太多事端。
畢竟前一任 GM 已經答應 Rodman 若在 1993-94 球季有好表現，就會給他
延常合約。


Popovich 若覺得 Rodman 的人格特質根本就不適合馬刺隊，那就不用敷衍
Rodman 說要再觀察一年看看。Rodman 進聯盟已經幾年了，他的鮮明形象早
就人盡皆知，怎麼可能會為 Popovich 而做改變呢？


最後不管怎樣，Rodman 與馬刺隊算是因為擺爛互蒙其利。


Rodman 因為擺爛獲得被賤賣到公牛隊的機會，協助 Jordan 開啟第二次三連霸的
公牛王朝，也讓自己再攀上人生高峰。

馬刺隊交易 Rodman 後，Robinson 在禁區又要攻守兩頭燒，之後的受傷也讓馬刺隊
全體擺爛力拼狀元籤，也幸運地拿到狀元籤選到 Duncan。




會想回這一系列的文章，是因為沒有一個人在討論 Rodman 1994-95 球季的行為時，
提出當初的合約談判問題，這麼重要的歷史脈絡沒有了解的情況下，
很難去分析討論當時 Rodman 與馬刺隊球團間的衝突。


同樣地，討論 Pippen 1997-98 球季的擺爛不上場，若沒有了解 Krause 履次
對 Pippen 出爾反爾的事蹟，那也很難去分析討論當時 Pippen 與公牛隊球團
間的衝突。
