We’re hearing from a source close to the team that Giants have already
offered a five-year, $90 million contract to Sandoval and expect a decision
soon — possibly as soon as the end of the week.
The current 5-year, $90 million offer is an improvement from the 3-year, $40
million the Giants offered during Spring Training. It is also the same deal
that the Giants reached with Hunter Pence at the end of last season, and was
reportedly what Sandoval’s agent asked extension talks to start at with the
Giants last year.
If the bidding for Sandoval’s services stay in this range, the Giants should
have a strong shot at keeping their homegrown third baseman among the rest of
their homegrown infield.
