Japan...Get ready for Rafa!
June 18.2010, London, UK
World number one Rafa Nadal will head the field at this year's Japan Open,
the Japan Tennis Association announced yesterday. "Our focus was on getting
Rafa to come this time," tournament director Naohiro Kawate said. "People
want to see Nadal."
"It is with great pleasure and excitement that I am coming for the first time
to Japan for the Rakuten Open," Rafa said in a statement. "I have never been
there, although I have traveled all around the world. So to me, this is a
great opportunity to play in a tournament that I have heard great things from
other players."
"I know I have a huge fan base in Japan so that also makes me very happy,"
then he continued. "I will also have the opportunity to experience the
Japanese culture including the food which I love," Rafa said.
The Rakuten Japan Open, to be played on the outdoor hardcourts of Ariake
Tennis Forest Park, starts on the 4th of October and is an ATP 500 event--the
third level after the Grand Slams and Masters.
Others in the field are defending champion Jo-Wilfred Tsonga, French
compatriot Gael Monfils, world No. 7 Andy Roddick of the United States and
Australia's Lleyton Hewitt, the 2001 champion.
Vamos Rafa!

Rafa
