Ewing's son headed for Indiana

March 7, 2003
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) -- The son of former New York Knicks star
Patrick Ewing plans to play for Indiana next fall.

Patrick Ewing Jr., a 6-8, 220-pound forward, said he called Indiana
coach Mike Davis on Thursday and told him he had picked the Hoosiers.

``Hopefully, I'll make an impact right away,'' Ewing said.

Ewing averaged 19 points, 12 rebounds and two blocked shots per
game for National Christian Academy of suburban Washington this
season. He chose Indiana over Texas, Virginia and Georgetown, where
his 7-foot father played.

``I think he's a perfect fit for the Indiana system,'' said Trevor
Brown, Ewing's high school coach. ``He can play in the post, face
the basket and go outside and shoot the 3. He's a player with a
tremendous amount of upside.''

Indiana cannot comment on recruits until signing day on April 12.
