Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz was today named the American League
Player of the Week for the period ending June 5.
In six games last week, Ortiz hit .545 (12 for 22) with four doubles, two
home runs, six RBIs and five runs scored. He becomes the third Red Sox player
to win the award in the last four weeks (Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford
were the others.
Papi was first in the AL in doubles (4) and total bases (22), was second in
batting average, slugging percentage (1.000) and on-base percentage (.583)
and was tied for second in the league in hits (12).
