Garbine Muguruza pulls out of Sydney after winning second round match

Former world No. 1 Garbine Muguruza pulled out of the Sydney International on
Wednesday night citing a thigh injury, just hours after progressing to the qua
rter finals with a win over Kiki Bertens.

The reigning Wimbledon champion sought medical attention in the first set with
a leg adductor issue, but was able to return and ultimately prevail to score
a 6-3 7-6 (8-6) win.

It means the winner of Sam Stosur and Daria Gavrilova will receive a walkover
straight into Friday's semi-finals.

"Since the start I felt a little bit my adductor and I already felt it in Bris
bane, so I thought I was going to be much better but in fact came back," Mugur
uza said. "It's getting better and better and today it came back a little bit
more with the match, which is the real competition and obviously it's difficul
t."

The world No.3 said the injury was unrelated to the cramping she suffered last
week in Brisbane, which forced her to pull out of the opening game.
