Mary Pierce returns to competition
French tennis player Mary Pierce, ex-number three on the WTA circuit,
announces her return to the tennis courts for the next season after retiring
temporarily in October 2006 because of recurrent knee injuries.

The French tennis player, who reached the final of the Australian Open in
1995 and Roland-Garros in 2000, told the newspaper l'Équipe: "I am coming
back to compete. I want to know what I can reach this time. During my career
I've faced the toughest competitors. If my body holds up, I am back to fight."

Pierce's trainer, Yutaka Nakamura, commented that Pierce's age (34) wouldn't
be much of a problem. "She is very strong physically and mentally. I have no
doubts everything will go well and she won't have problems competing among
the best."
