Kerr calls Pop “one of the most important people” in his life

“Pop is one of the most important people in my life,” Kerr said before
Saturday’s game at the AT&T Center. “He always has been, since I first met
him. I’ve learned so much from him by observing and playing under him and
just having fun with him.”

“What I figured out pretty quickly under Pop was the Xs and Os are a kind of
small part of everything,” said Kerr, the first coach in NBA history to win

“The important part are the relationships within the team, the pacing of the
team, trying to give guys perspective and allowing them to be free while they
play. … That’s not from the plays he called. That’s from the way he
treated us.

“There’s no secret,” Kerr said. “We’ve patterned a lot of what we’ve
done with our organization after the game.”
