Kevin Durant: Victor Oladipo-Serge Ibaka trade was a 'good move'

Back in 2013, before Victor Oladipo's rookie season, he visited Kevin
Durant's camp and the superstar gave him advice. The two of them grew up in
the D.C. area and also played against each other in the Goodman League
Roundball Classic that summer. Last October, Durant told reporters in Orlando
that Oladipo reminded him of Dwyane Wade. Now the two of them are Oklahoma
City Thunder teammates, at least technically -- Durant will be a free agent
at 12 a.m. ET on Friday.
In New York on Wednesday with Team USA, Durant told reporters that he liked
the trade that sent Serge Ibaka to the Orlando Magic in exchange for Oladipo,
Ersan Ilyasova and Domantas Sabonis.
"It's a good move," Durant said, via the Washington Post's Tim Bontemps. "I
like Oladipo. He's a good buddy, a friend of mine, and I'm definitely going
to miss playing with Serge. He contributed so much to our organization and to
the city, and he's a pioneer for what he's done for us and it's always going
to be remembered in OKC what he's done for the community and his hard work on
the court, so we wish him the best."
This does not mean that Durant is definitely staying in Oklahoma City, but if
that's your preferred outcome, it's encouraging. The endorsement might not
even be as important as the fact that he used "we" and "us" while referring
to the Thunder.
When Oklahoma City made the deal, people wondered whether it was done to
prevent Durant's exit or to prepare for it. Its executives would probably say
that it helped either way, but if the move impressed their franchise player,
then they have to be thrilled. The move made gave the Thunder more depth and
versatility, and it kept them from being put in a difficult financial
position with Dion Waiters' free agency this week and Ibaka's next year. The
fact that Oladipo is a favorite of Durant's is a significant bonus.
