Jhoao Rodriguez, an 18-year-old striker from Colombia, has joined Bastia
on loan until the end of the season.


Rodriguez signed for Chelsea from Deportes Quindio, a club in his
homeland, having begun his career in the Colombian lower leagues.


He impressed at the 2011 South American Under-15 Championships and has
continued to represent Colombia at junior international level. He
participated at the prestigious Toulon Tournament this summer.


Bastia, from the island of Corsica, finished 10th in the French top flight
last season and are managed by Chelsea legend Claude Makelele.

Joao spent two months on trial as an Under-16 and impressed enough to sign
a pre-contract agreement for a five-year professional contract beginning
on his seventeenth birthday. This made him the first Colombian in history
to sign with the London club. As part of the agreement Rodríguez remained
at Deportes Quindio to play for the 2012-13 season. The player officially
joined Chelsea for the start of the 2013/14 season.
