: Jays re-invent Chien-Ming Wang
: By MIKE RUTSEY, QMI Agency
: TORONTO - It’s one thing for a starter to change his style of pitching over
: a career.
: Few, though, have been willing to make fundamental changes in the middle of
: an outing and carry that new philosophy into the next.
: But that is what transpired when Jays right-hander Chien-Ming Wang was on the
: mound for the first time last week in Chicago against the White Sox and then
: again on Sunday in Arlington against the Texas Rangers.
: It was an amazing metamorphosis for Wang to go from power sinkerball pitcher
: to junk-ball artist, but that’s what the 33-year-old accomplished in his two
: starts with the Blue Jays.
: Wang and his newfound skills will be on display Saturday when the Jays and
: Orioles meet up for the second game in their three-game series this weekend.
: It is an amazing turn of events for Wang, who was a 19-game winner for the
: New York Yankees in both 2006 and 2007 when he rode his power sinking
: two-seam fastball (94-96 mph) to success.
: “We made a decision talking with him and talking with J.P. (Arencibia)
: during the game against Chicago, the fact that he wasn’t using his curveball,
: ” pitching coach Pete Walker said Friday. “He has a changeup that he showed
: us in the bullpen prior to the game but during the course of the game it was
: primarily sinkers (through the first four innings).
: “But at this stage of his career, I know he’s been a power sinker (pitcher)
: in the past with New York and had a lot of success with it, but at this stage
: of his career he’s got to adjust. He’s got a good curveball and a quality
: major league changeup and a split (fastball). They are pitches he can use
: that he hasn’t utilized in the past or didn’t need to which I think he
: needs to now and you saw the results at the end of the Chicago game. Then we
: worked on his curveball, his changeup in the bullpen and tried to build his
: confidence to keep using those pitches and he showed it in his last game in
: Texas.”

: Against the Rangers, Wang recorded seven shutout innings. He held the Rangers
: to seven hits, walked two, struck out five and showed the poise and ability
: to pitch his way out of jams in both the second and fourth.
: “Against Texas he mixed things up, kept them off balance and his 91-mph
: sinker is that much more effective,” Walker said. “He’s buying into that,
: he saw good results and we’re hoping it carries over in Saturday’s game.”
: If nothing else it shows that Wang has great trust in his ability to throw
: those off-speed pitches effectively. It’s one thing to get beat but no
: pitcher wants to get beat on his secondary stuff.
: “He’s still got major-league stuff,” Walker said. “I think he’s got an
: average to above-average major-league curve and an effective split and
: change. We’ll see where it goes.”

Walker:

"王葛葛仍然具備大聯盟的水準

我認為他有著大聯盟平均水準到高於平均水準的曲球

以及有效的指叉球和變速球

就讓我們拭目以待 ^_^ "
