Julio Morban

ESPN Ranking : 11
Morban can play anywhere in the outfield, but his good defense and arm belong
in center field. He is not too big (5-11, 178) but has speed on the base
paths and swings an occasionally powerful bat. Morban bats from the left side
and has a strong grasp of the game.

Saberscouting Ranking : 5
Morban is more of a baseball player-type prospect than the above hitters,
that are more star potential athletes. Morban swings a consistent bat from
the left side and has above-average speed and solid athletic actions in
center field packed into a compact 5'11, 178 pound frame.
Despite not owning a big, projectable frame, Morban has a bat that almost
every Latin insider can buy, along with athleticism that brought projections
of a million dollar bonus before the market jumped a few notches. Morban's
swing has some issues to be ironed out like any 16 year old's swing would,
but with advanced hitability, a sound approach, solid mechanics, and enough
bat speed to create some power, he may own the safest bat in this class. He
also sports an above-average arm and glove in center, and while some think he
may add power and eventually move to right field, the profile is that of an
everyday player either way.
The Mariners, Mets, Red Sox, and Yankees have been tied to Morban. Baseball
America has a profile and a projection that jives with what I've heard: $1.1
to $1.2 million from the Mariners.

Jose Valdivia
Position : RHP
Age : 16 (March 19, 1992)
Nationality : Nicaraguablic

ESPN Ranking : 13
Valdivia has a nice build (6-3, 185) but needs to work on his mechanics,
something that is not surprising if we take into account that he turned 16
in March. Valdivia pitches with a three-quarter arm slot, and his fastball
reaches 91 mph.

Saberscouting Ranking : 15
Not too many teams have seen Valdivia, the only Nicaraguan on this list, in
game conditions, so there will be a lot of projecting to be made on a small
sample of performance. But, as said above with Drullal, you can't be too
picky with the now-abilities of 16 year olds.
Valdivia has an extremely projectable frame at 6'3 and 180 pounds, and shows
an average fastball with good sink from a three-quarters arm angle that has
hit 92. He is raw, lacking high-level instruction and experience. Predictably,
he lacks refinement in his secondary pitches and has mechanics that need to
be reworked, but has a high risk/reward ratio.

Saberscouting Ranking : N/A

6'2 200lbs R/R Pina. Strong lower half but not fat. very quick bat and more
advanced hitter then anyone else on the market. Does not have the upside of
the rodriguez's but is a better hitter at this point. Washington put 800k on
table but Arizona and Cardinals might be willing to give over 1mil.

I know Pina very well. I think he's a great kid. I just had a falling out
with his coach in the Dominican. I think he's worth money, but his coach
wanted over 2 million and I didn't see his value that high. I thought he
should have gotten around a million plus or minus. One of the most important
things as an agent is to have confidence in your players, but also to know
when enough is enough. I try to get the most money for my players by putting
the teams against one another after a scouting period. I try and be realistic
and I'm also trying to have relationships with the teams over a long period
of time. I first saw Pina when he was 14 years old. His coach called me to
represent Pina and there were external reasons for me not representing him
anymore that were in no way related to my performance as an agent. I still
hope the kid does well and gets a good bonus.
