Source: Red Sox ‘focused on internal solutions’ as deadline nears
Posted by Scott Lauber at 1:53 pm
BALTIMORE — According to a major-league source, the Red Sox continue to
monitor the trade market in advance of the July 31 deadline, but remain “
focused on internal solutions” to fit their needs both in right field and on
the pitching staff.
In particular, the Red Sox are taking a long look at Josh Reddick, who has
been on a tear since being recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket last month.
Reddick, starting in right field here today in place of slumping J.D. Drew,
has been on a tear since being recalled last month from Triple-A Pawtucket.
He singled and scored in the fourth inning today, as the Red Sox lead the
Orioles, 2-0.
According to a FoxSports.com report early this morning, the Red Sox and
Phillies have been among the “most aggressive suitors” for New York Mets
outfielder Carlos Beltran, who said during the All-Star break that waving his
no-trade clause to come to Boston would be a “no-brainer.” Beltran (AP
photo) also has a close relationship with Red Sox executive Allard Baird, who
was the Royals’ general manager for part of the time Beltran played in
Kansas City.
At this point, though, the source told the Herald he would be “surprised”
if other teams hadn’t been pursuing Beltran more aggressively than the Red
Sox.
