SEATTLE -- It's just one game. It's just one win. But for Jeff Weaver, his
teammates and their fans, one win meant an awful lot.
Weaver earned his first win of the season and helped the Mariners snap a
six-game losing streak with a 7-0 win over the Pirates in front of 23,553
fans at Safeco Field on Wednesday night.

Weaver, who allowed just four hits in nine innings, had struggled through

Redemption inched closer. And Weaver, constantly supported by his teammates
and family, was close to showing his teammates their support wasn't without
reason.

as he walked to the pitcher's mound, Mariners fans stood and applauded.

said. "It was good to see good things happen to good people."

plays. In addition to Ibanez's play, third baseman Adrian Beltre made an
over-the-shoulder catch in foul territory, which was followed up by a nice
catch by Yuniesky Betancourt to end the game.

The fans erupted, and right then it seemed as if there were no more doubts.

"I know the fans have had a lot of questions marks with the start I had,
which is understandable, but to have a game like this at home in front of the
fans, it makes you feel good," Weaver said. "It gives you chills when you're

And as Hargrove hugged Weaver after the win, Weaver leaned in and said
something to his manager.
