Had very little to do but expertly dealt with Sissoko when the Frenchman
raced through on goal in the first half.

Seems more confident going forward since his winner at the Etihad Stadium and
picked Hazard out really well for the opening goal.

Was a tower of strength at the back for most of the game.
Shackled De Jong with relative ease and carried a threat in the opposition
penalty area from set-pieces, though he never seriously tested Krul.

A real rock at the back, kept the opposition quiet.
Mourinho fights a constant battle to keep him from wandering absent-mindedly
forward but he made no bad defensive lapses and looked solid alongside
Cahill. De Jong gave him little with which to deal, though.

Didn't do an awful lot.
Continues to look as though he has played at left-back for all his career,
keeping Ben Arfa on the periphery and giving Hazard a solid defensive
platform from which to shine.

Good showing in midfield
Chelsea's likeliest goal threat early on with his shots from distance.
Contented himself with keeping the midfield ticking over thereafter and
generously allowed Hazard to take a second-half penalty and complete his
hat-trick.

Shielded the defence well.
A muscular yet cultured presence at the base of midfield again. He broke up
play, passed sensibly and picked the right times to drive forward. Superb
individually and carries the added benefit of making his team-mates better,
too.

Industrious.
Pressed with his usual ferocity and forced mistakes from the Newcastle
defenders. Most of his best attacking work took the form of supplying Hazard.

Not the Brazilian's most influential game. He worked as hard as ever and
linked the play well from back to front but was not a threat in the final
third.

Scored three terrific goals.
Dubbed "the best young player in the world" by Mourinho after his Manchester
City masterclass, he lived up to the billing again - and this time with added
goals. His class was allied to a ruthless sense of purpose as he tore into
the Newcastle defence and even his penalty was stylishly dispatched. A
pleasure to watch.

Played well up front, combined well with Hazard.
Still not the deadly No.9 that this team really need but was always lively
and linked up well with his midfield creators - most notably when his sublime
flick set up Hazard for his second.

goal but a mixture of poor finishing and good goalkeeping from Krul denied
him.

The main purpose of his five-minute cameo was to give Hazard the Stamford
Bridge ovation that he deserved.
