Talented Chelsea 16-year-old makes his way to the Africa Cup of Nations

Chelsea youngster Bertrand Traore is making his way over to Africa after
being named in Burkina Faso's Africa Cup of Nations squad.


The midfielder won his first cap for his country in a friendly match in
September and links up at the tournament in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon
with older brother Alain, who plays for AJ Auxerre.


If Traore appears in his country's first match, against Angola on January
22, he will be the third youngest player ever to appear in the tournament,
at 16 years, four months and 16 days old.


Traore could then find himself facing off against Chelsea team-mates
Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou, who play for the Ivory Coast and complete
the group, along with Sudan.


Ghana's Shiva Star Nzigou holds the record for youngest player at 16
years, two months and 30 days old, even scoring during the match against
South Africa at the 2000 finals. Sierra Leone's Mohamed Kallon is second,
appearing in the 1996 finals at 16 years, three months and nine days old.


Burkina Faso only confirmed their participation in the cup on Tuesday,
when the Court of Arbitration for Sport rejected a case brought by Namibia
regarding the eligibility of Burkina defender Herve Zengue. Zengue was not
included in Burkina Faso's 23-man squad for the tournament.
