Justine moved into Thursday's 3rd round in Berlin after defeating 19 year old
German WC Tatjana Malek 6-1 6-1. It was a teaser of a match that lasted no
longer than 1 hour and 2 minutes; the clay court queen did exactly what was
required for an opening round. JH will play the second round winner of Na Li
or Camerin on Thursday.
"The first match at any event is always important to me. I have done well
here, winning the title three times. I lost the final last year, but I feel I
have improved a lot this season. However, in Berlin I am playing on a surface
that I like. I can always make quick adjustments on any surface and I feel
good going into my first match" - Justine
Flying in directly from J&S Cup on Monday night Justine didn't have much turn
around time to collect her bearings, but had no problem shifting focus
straight to the Berlin draw today. There was no real danger nor much self
inflicted fuss in defeating German 19 year old WC Tatjana Malek.
Final Score: 6-1 6-1 in 1hr 2min
"I am taking one step at a time. It's very important to get your rhythm right
on clay as you prepare for the French Open. Playing on clay requires a
different rhythm because the clay court season is so short. I did a good job
in Warsaw, but playing well in Berlin is also very important to me." - Justine
