Australian Open 2008 - Kick It
20/01/2008:
Justine kick delivered her way into the second week at Melbourne by defeating
Su-Wei Hsieh of Taiwan 6-2 6-2 in 75 minutes. The brave efforts by the young
Taiwanese qualifier was halted by world class Henin magic. Things become very
serious from the quarterfinal stage. Justine will take on Maria Sharapova
this Tuesday.
It was the biggest match for Hsieh's young career, but also her country.
Hsieh has become the first player from Taiwan to reach the 4th round stage at
a major. And to play Justine is quite a magnificent day, but the 7x grand
slam champion had her own agenda. The first set went on serve, but Justine
took command of the match and never let Hsieh gain advantage points. The duel
wings two-hander worked hard, but to no avail. Justine charged forward to win
the first set 6-2 35 minutes.
The second set was much of the same as Justine kept her time on court to a
minimum, unlike her male counter part on Saturday night. The score was 5-0
and one way. Hsieh regained fighting spirit and won two more game, but the
end was near. Justine fired up power serves, and won the match in her third
set point.
6-2 6-2 in 1 hour and 14 minutes
