Alex Smith wants better deal than Andy Dalton
Alex Smith indicated he would not take a "pay-as-you-go" contract
like the one Andy Dalton signed with the Bengals.
Dalton's contract includes no guaranteed money behind the first
year. "I want to get something that's right that I'm going to play
out, absolutely, and that's definitely a focus of mine," said
Smith. Agent Tom Condon spoke with GM John Dorsey about a Smith
deal "a couple days ago," but it's unclear if the gap is being
bridged.
Since the early spring, it's been rumored that Smith is targeting
Jay Cutler or Joe Flacco money -- upwards of $20 million a year.
