這是2010-2019十大交易案的第二集，因為這部分原文篇幅較短，我找了一些數
據補充了原文寫得比較簡略的部分，如果有更熟悉當時交易背景的板友歡迎留言批評指

2. The Red Sox pay a high price for an elite ace
Dec. 6, 2016: White Sox trade P Chris Sale to Red Sox for P Michael Kopech,
IF Yoan Moncada, OF Luis Alexander Basabe and P Victor Diaz

What even?
After a few years of proving that a "stars-and-scrubs" strategy wasn't going
to work, the White Sox tore it all down. The next day, they'd trade Adam
Eaton to Washington for Lucas Giolito and others. The next summer, Jose
Quintana, Todd Frazier and David Robertson were on the move as well. Only
now are they really attempting to return to contention. In Boston, the 2016
Red Sox won the AL East behind David Price and AL Cy Young Award winner Rick
Porcello, but they'd reached the end of the line with Clay Buchholz and
figured it was time to build a super rotation.

2. Chris Sale交易案

紅襪拿到：Chris Sale
白襪拿到：Michael Kopech, Yoan Moncada, Luis Alexander Basabe and Victor Diaz

(1)交易發生背景
白襪在2015-2016年分別只獲得76與78勝，離獲得季後賽資格大概有十場的勝差
，白襪終於在2016年底決定打掉重建，交易Sale與Eaton這兩個頭號球星雖然不捨，但也讓
他們獲得了兩個Top 10新秀（Giolito、Moncada）、兩個Top 40新秀（Kopech、Lopez），
大大挹注了貧弱的農場系統。隔年七月Jose Quintana、Todd Frazier和David Robertson
也陸續被兜售，白襪的重建計畫正式開始。但這也等於承認原本"stars-and-scrubs"的策
略是失敗的。
"stars-and-scrubs"是一種Fantasy Baseball的建隊方式，玩家必須謹慎使用有
限的預算去打造自己的夢幻球隊。這種策略是選擇兩到三位super star，再用剩餘的預算
去選一些低成本的普通球員。這裡被用來形容白襪當時的建隊方針，我參考Baseball
Reference資料，在2015-2016兩個賽季分別找出所有貢獻超過1WAR的白襪球員，並分為四
個球員等級（大於4WAR、3-4WAR、2-3WAR、1-2WAR），最後再與季後賽球隊的各級距球員
數進行比較。（季後賽球隊由勝場數進行排序）

從上面的表可以發現，白襪雖然有數個貢獻4WAR以上的明星，但他們卻缺乏產能
平均以上的綠葉球員，這就導致白襪的球隊體質不如當時聯盟裡的季後賽球隊。大多數球
迷只認得Sale、Eaton、Abreu、Quintana這幾個明星，其他球員全部沒聽過……白襪高層
或許在2016年結束時認為這支球隊無法達到取得季後賽資格的目標，才決定清倉大拍賣換
取年輕潛力放眼未來。

Were the takes good or bad?
The Red Sox "paid an elite price to get an elite player," wrote FanGraphs,
which is fair. The White Sox "[struck] prospect gold," said the headline of
Keith Law's ESPN piece.

(2)當時交易的評價
Fangraph當時的標題"paid an elite price to get an elite player"與Kieth
Law的文章標題 ”The White Sox "[struck] prospect gold.” 顯示出當時的主流評價
認為：「紅襪用合理的價碼換到了一個真正的王牌。」

紅襪還可以控制Sale三年，但他們也付出的代價著實驚人。Moncada當時在MLB
Prospect Pipeline裡排名第1，是紅襪前一年砸下63M才簽下的超大物新秀，21歲的他在
攻守兩端都展現極高的潛力與成熟度；20歲的Kopech有三個評價為plus的球種，快速球曾
經飆破105英哩，只要他減少他的保送率（5.3 BB/9），以他的stuff有很有機會長成王牌
先發；還在1A打滾的Basabe雖然只是配菜，但他有成為五拍子中外野手的潛力。

And then what happened?
Sale lived up to expectations, throwing 372 1/3 innings of 2.56 ERA ball over
the next two seasons, and he recorded the final out in the 2018 World Series.
Like much of the rest of Chicago's rebuild, this got off to a rough start, as
Moncada struck out 217 times in 2018, while Kopech injured his elbow after
only 14 1/3 innings that year. Basabe has struggled to stay healthy, and Diaz
simply hasn't been healthy enough to pitch since 2017. But Moncada broke out
in a big way this past year, hitting 25 homers with a 141 OPS+ and strong
third-base defense. Kopech has reportedly been back up to 100 mph in his
rehab, and he should pitch in the Majors in 2020.

(3)交易後續的影響

Sale完全符合紅襪當初的期望，接下來兩季展現出王牌的架勢（合計主投372.1
局，繳出2.56 ERA/2.25 FIP的恐怖數據，FWAR 13.8也僅次於Scherzer的13.9）並且他幫
助紅襪奪下十年來第二枚冠軍戒指。

每次白襪的重建期在剛起步時總是不太順利，這次也不例外：Moncada在2018年
被三振217次，全聯盟最多；Kopech於同年只在小聯盟投了14.1局，就因為手肘韌帶撕裂需
要動Tommy John手術；Basabe與Diaz也都因為大小傷勢不斷而發展停滯不前。但時間來到
了2019年，情況似乎出現了轉機，Moncada在攻防兩端都有大幅度的突破（2018年WRC+97
，防守OAA -15為全聯盟內野手最差，去年球季WRC+141，OAA進步到平均之上的+5）；
Kopech術後復健很順利，球速仍舊可以飆到100英哩，預計2020年可以升上大聯盟。白襪
靠著交易獲得的一大批年輕球員往季後賽之路邁進。

Would each team do it again?
Yes. Sale helped Boston win a ring, which was the entire point. The White Sox
finally look like they're ready to contend again, and Moncada is a big part
of that, with a healthy Kopech still possessing front-of-the-rotation talent.

(4)如果可以回到過去，交易雙方會反悔嗎？

Sale幫助紅襪贏得冠軍戒指，白襪拿到了儼然已經成為明星的Moncada，現在球
探們還是很看好Kopech的潛力，白襪在未來數年很有機會靠著這一投一打成為季後賽常客
。不管用甚麼角度來分析，這都是一筆雙贏的成功交易。
