POSITIVE THINKING IN NEW MAG
Posted on: Thu 03 Nov 2011
David Luiz is the cover star of this month's Chelsea magazine, sharing his
views on life and football with the people he aims to please the most -
you.
The defender has bounced back from a knee injury sustained in pre-season
while on international duty to become a regular under Andre Villas-Boas
over the past couple of months, and there is no doubting the Brazilian is
loving life at Stamford Bridge.
For those who see him day in and day out at Cobham, it is rare to do so
without noticing the broad grin across the 24-year-old's face, and
happiness was very much the theme of the discussion when he sat down with
Chelsea recently.
'I have health, a good family and I do what I love,' he told the magazine.
'I have no reason to complain.
'My attitude, be it on the field or off the field, is to bring positive
thinking to everybody because, as footballers, we are also role models in
society, especially to young people. So, my attitude has to be the same
whether I'm playing or not playing.'
'The way I see it, God gave you teeth not only to eat but to smile.'

David Luiz
This spirit is reflected in the way he plays the game, bounding forward
from the back at every opportunity to begin or join in with attacks, and
there is a genuine hope that people enjoy watching him do so. The former
Benfica man certainly appreciates the interest in him from the stands and
beyond.
'When you give your best for the supporters and are genuinely part of the
club, you put the shirt on and become one of them,' he says.
'Then, little-by-little, they start to come round to you and see that you
keep dedicating yourself to the cause, game after game. It is the most
important thing in life to be genuine and not to pretend to be something
you are not and people can see this in you.
'I do like to leave a positive impression everywhere I pass through. This
is part of human nature - everybody likes to feel important.
'During a game, for example, we are important because we are there in the
middle of the pitch and we can see around us a stadium that is full. That
means all these people thought we were important enough for them to be
here.
'Yet, just as it's important for them to come and see us, it's equally
important for us that they are there. We want to play in front of a full
stadium and we have to show how important it is for us that the supporters
are there for the team.
'I think this is paramount in our sport - we have to give the same respect
back. Obviously, you can't go around and speak to everybody in the stadium.
However, after the game is over, I think it's important to say thank you
to the fans and I love to speak to them when I get the chance.'
David Luiz can easily be filed under the 'Cult Hero' category, and so can
this month's celebrity Blues fan - Peter Dale - better known as Soccer
AM's Tubes.
A Chelsea fan from birth, Tubes is a season ticket holder at the Matthew
Harding end, and likes what he sees under Villas-Boas.

Peter Dale
'I haven't enjoyed watching Chelsea this much for at least two or three
years and we're playing amazing football,' he tells Chelsea. 'Daniel
Sturridge is like a new signing, Fernando Torres is coming good, Ramires
is unreal and Juan Mata is a genius. I think everybody is genuinely
excited about what we can achieve.
'Villas-Boas has brought in younger players but Lamps and JT are still
doing it, which is amazing, Ashley Cole just runs forever in every game
and Petr Cech is the best keeper in the world. I'm really optimistic about
what we can achieve and this could be our year for the Champions League.'
Tubes also had some interesting answers when asked about his favourite
other celebrity Chelsea fans.
'Will Ferrell. He asked me who I support and I told him I was a Chelsea
fan and he said, "Rock on, man!" I thought he was just going to say he
wore the shirt once, but he actually knew quite a lot about the club, to
be fair to him.
'I also once taught Jim Carrey the Celery Song and One Man Went To Mow
because he likes Chelsea as well. That was crazy.'
There is still more in December's Chelsea magazine, with a look at Ashley
Cole and Daniel Sturridge's recent An Audience With... at the Bridge.
The pair were in sparkling form when they came face to face with
supporters, discussing their motivations on the pitch and their pool
rivalry off it, and if that is still not enough, Nicolas Anelka gives us
an insight into his life with Did You Know, revealing his best football
friends and some of the defining moments of his glittering career.
December's Chelsea is available now, priced at £3.25 in the Megastore and
newsagents.
