Chelsea Here Chelsea There: Gallagher scores again in Palace victory,
triumphant debut by Baxter and shock win for Ampadu
08 Nov 2021
In our round-up of the action involving Chelsea players on loan over the
last week, Conor Gallagher and Crystal Palace's fine form continued with
another goal and another win, while Nathan Baxter impressed on his league
debut for Hull City and Ethan Ampadu helped Venezia stun Jose Mourinho's
Roma.

Conor Gallagher got his fourth Premier League goal of the season as he
helped Crystal Palace win 2-0 at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers,
scoring in his second consecutive game after registering a goal and an
assist in the Eagles' victory over Manchester City by the same scoreline
last week.

Against Wolves, the midfielder struck in the second half, via a deflection
off Conor Coady, to make the three points safe, as Patrick Vieira's side
went within two points of the European places. Palace are now unbeaten in
their opening six home league fixtures for the first time since the
1993/94 campaign, when they were in the second division.

In the Premier League's Friday evening fixture, Armando Broja came off the
bench to play the last 10 minutes of Southampton's 1-0 home win over Aston
Villa.
Nathan Baxter impressed with two good saves as he kept a clean sheet on
his first league appearance of the season to help Hull City win 2-0 away
at Barnsley. It represented a big improvement from Hull, who had lost
their previous five Championship games in a row and hadn't scored away
from home in 2021/22 before this game.

Levi Colwill set up the opening goal in Huddersfield Town's 1-1 draw at
Peterborough, heading on a first-half corner to give Danny Ward a simple
tap in at the back post. The defender was then unlucky not to get his name
on the score sheet against Cardiff City, with goalkeeper Alex Smithies
producing a brilliant save to keep out another Colwill header, as the
Terriers suffered a 2-1 away defeat.
It was a mixed week for Ian Maatsen and Jake Clarke-Salter at Coventry
City, who started both their league games. First Clarke-Salter had a
particularly frustrating evening as Coventry lost their unbeaten home
record this season, going down 2-1 to Swansea City, with the centre-back's
clearance being lashed in for the first goal, before he got an attempted
block on the second, but couldn't keep it out of the net.

They then got back to winning ways against Bristol City at home, although
Maatsen was shown a red card for conceding the penalty that resulted in
the first goal. However, Clarke-Salter and the rest of the Sky Blues twice
fought back from behind in the second half before scoring an injury-time
winner.
Baba Rahman and Reading suffered a 1-0 Championship defeat at Milwall in
midweek, but bounced back on Saturday by coming from behind to win 2-1 at
Birmingham City on Saturday.
Henry Lawrence came on to play the last 10 minutes as Wimbledon got off to
a winning start in the FA Cup, beating Guiseley 1-0 in the first round.
Outside of England, Ethan Ampadu returned from suspension to feature
throughout Venezia's shock 3-2 win over Jose Mourinho's Roma in Serie A.
In a chaotic and action-packed match, Venezia took an early lead but went
in at the break behind after two goals in the last three minutes of the
first half, the second by former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham.

However, Ampadu and his team-mates scored twice in the second half to take
all three points, scoring more than once in a Serie A match for the first
time this season. Also in Italy, Tiemoue Bakayoko came off the bench for
the closing stages of AC Milan's 1-1 draw with Inter Milan in Sunday's big
derby.
Emerson and Lyon suffered a 4-1 defeat away at high-flying Rennes in
Ligue 1, while Thierno Ballo came on in back-to-back defeats for Rapid
Vienna, 3-1 at Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League and 4-1 at Wolfsberger
in the Austrian Bundesliga.
