Magadan談A-Gon:

"The data shows he's probably chased more balls out of the strike zone," Red
Sox hitting coach Dave Magadan said. "He's also swung at pitches that are not
his strength. A pitch at the top corner in, that quadrant of the strike zone,
is not a pitch I feel like he should look for to hit. His strength is out
over the plate, something he can drive the other way."

"When you're a little too concerned about mechanics and what you're trying to
do to get ready, you tend to not focus on the pitch and getting a good pitch
to hit, and you tend to swing at pitches out of the zone," Magadan said.

"He was a little uncomfortable his first couple of at-bats," Magadan said. In
contrast, in drawing his two walks, Gonzalez was "a little less jumpy because
he was doing something different. He wasn't tapping anymore. He felt a lot
better the last two at-bats. He laid off some pitches that, maybe if he was
jumping out there a little bit, he might have chased. I saw some improvement."

"A lot of pitches -- fastballs, changeups, curveballs, sliders, cutters --
he's generally swung at a lot of those pitches out of the strike zone,"
Magadan said. "I've seen a lot of fastballs up and in, down and away, up and
away that he's chased. Those last two at-bats (Saturday) were a step forward."

"I thought I was going to make their team," Podsednik said. "It was tough, it
was tough. I worked hard to get myself back into shape to try to get back to
the big leagues. But I understand the business side of it. I understand that
it was probably the right move for them, but it was tough to swallow."

played. And suddenly, he found his name in the lineup just about every day.
