When approached by reporters at his locker, Hill declined comment until after
his meeting with Andrews. "I don't have any answers right now," Hill said.

“Rich Hill had a little tightness in his elbow and, because of the situation
that he’s dealing with in the first year of his rehabilitation, we’re going
to have him go back to Dr. Andrews, the doctor who performed the operation,
to get his opinion on why he has that tightness,” said manager Bobby
Valentine. “He just doesn’t feel good throwing his curveball. Hopefully it
will come back as an SOP that this is the way things happen as you recover
from Tommy John.”

The Phillies may be more interested in Will Middlebrooks than Kevin Youkilis,
a major league source told Cafardo. However, it doesn't look like the Red
Sox would have interest in dealing Middlebrooks.

The Orioles' new six-year, $85MM deal with Adam Jones has led to speculation
on how the Red Sox will approach Jacoby Ellsbury, who can be a free agent
after the 2013 season. However, there's reason for both sides to wait. As
an Oregon native who shuns the spotlight, Ellsbury may want a quieter market.

The Sox, meanwhile, would want to see Ellsbury stay healthy for a while
before committing 6-8 years to him.

“I think pitch count’s a joke. I really do,” McClure said. “I’m not
saying you don’t watch young guys to keep them healthy, to keep everyone
healthy. But, who’s to say a guy can’t throw 130 pitches for 20 starts on
every fifth day?

Boston Red Sox: A college-heavy class that is more conservative than what the
Red Sox were doing under the old system, which I suppose is the point of the
new one. Deven Marrero (SS, Arizona State) and Brian Johnson (LHP, Florida)
are virtually certain to reach the majors, although both could end up as just
role players. Marrero's glove is sharp but his bat is questionable, while
Johnson doesn't light up radar guns. Supplemental pick Pat Light (RHP,
Monmouth) has more upside with a strong fastball and good performance
numbers, but nees to refine his secondaries. Jamie Callahan (RHP, South
Carolina HS, 2nd round) and Ty Buttrey (RHP, North Carolina HS, 4th round)
provide live arms. Buttrey was a first-round candidate and we'll have to see
if the money works out. Third-round RHP Austin Maddox (Florida) could reach
the majors very quickly in relief. Mike Augliera (RHP, Binghamton, 5th round)
and Justin Haley (RHP, Fresno State, 6th round) didn't get a lot of pre-draft
headlines but they both did well in college, Augliera due to his stellar
command and Haley due to his sinker. Promising high upside talents Carson
Fulmer (15th round, RHP, Florida HS) and Alex Bregman (29th round, INF, New
Mexico HS) are likely college bound unless something can be shaken loose with
bonuses.
