Ashley Cole has admitted that he 'hopes to see' highly rated Southampton
left back Luke Shaw replace him at Chelsea.
The England defender was undertaking a question-and-answer session with
his 1.3million Twitter following, when someone queried him on the matter.
One user wrote: 'how does it feel that Chelsea want to buy Luke Shaw to
play over you?' and Cole responded with 'hope to see him there to be
honest'.
Cole, 33, has been largely out of favour this season, with Cesar
Azpilicueta playing out of position at left back instead. That is also a
vote of no confidence in youngster Ryan Bertrand by Jose Mourinho, who may
look to get Shaw, 18, in to learn under Cole before stepping into the side.
A few months ago, Shaw used Twitter to flirt with suitors Chelsea,
labelling the Blues his favourite team... after the Saints.
Shaw, who was taking part in a Q&A with Twitter users himself, admitted to
having a soft spot for the west London club. When asked who his favourite
team were after Southampton, Shaw simply replied 'Chelsea'.
The defender was also quizzed by fans who the best player he has swapped
shirts with since Southampton's promotion to the Premier League last
season. Shaw said it was 'Ashley Cole'.
