INSIDE PITCH
Chien-Ming Wang, who is 0-3 with a 34.50 earned run average, threw 91 pitches
at extended spring training Thursday in Tampa, Fla. He allowed four earned
runs and nine hits, with no walks and 11 strikeouts, against players from
the Phillies’ organization. Wang’s next turn in the rotation is Tuesday,
the same day Phil Hughes is due to pitch at Class AAA. Hughes is 3-0 with
a 1.86 E.R.A. for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and the Yankees could fit him on
the team by putting Wang on the disabled list and claiming he still needs
to gain arm strength after missing most of last season with a foot injury.
