YOUTH TEAM SKIPPER MOVES ON

Academy defender Jonathan Muleba has today (Thursday) joined Championship
side AFC Bournemouth.
Muleba, 18, captained the youth team in each of his 15 league appearances
this season, while also figuring in both our FA Youth Cup games to date.
He played 22 times as a first-year scholar last season, while previously
appearing twice for the Under-18 side when still a schoolboy.
Chelsea Football Club wishes Jonathan well for his future with the
Cherries and thanks him for his contribution while here.

Jonathan Muleba has joined the development squad after signing a
two-and-a-half year contract.
Muleba was offered a contract extension at Stamford Bridge, but opted to
move to the south coast following a spell training with the club.
The 18-year-old can play anywhere across the back four and has featured
for the Blues in the under-18 Premier League on a regular basis this
season.
“I've been looking forward to coming here for a few weeks now,” Muleba
told afcb.co.uk.
“I've seen that the players in the development squad get opportunities
here and the chance to train with the first team, which was important to
me.
“It's always difficult to leave home, because I'm from London, and what
you know, but in terms of football it was quite an easy decision.”
Development coach Stephen Purches was pleased to secure Muleba's services
and is looking forward to working with the defender.
“I feel that we are gaining a player here who the club can hopefully
benefit from in a few years' time,” he said.
“He was offered another contract by Chelsea, but came to train with us
and look at the way we train and our philosophy. He bought into that
straight away.
“I think it says a lot about the club that people want to be part of what
we are doing and want to achieve.”
